China-UK Low Carbon College China-UK Low Carbon College was established in May, 2017, thanks to the joint efforts of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of Edinburgh and other UK universities, as well as Shanghai and Lingang government. As the first domestic low carbon college (LCC), the LCC aims to become a world-class innovative higher education and research institution with international influence, which provides academic programs, executive training, scientific research and industrial incubation. Green low-carbon development is an inevitable choice for China and the rest of the world to deal with global warming, a challenge that the whole world is facing. The college will concentrate on green development strategy, and carry out teaching and research on low-carbon energy, low-carbon environment, carbon finance, carbon management and low-carbon city etc. The goal of the LCC is to serve as a cradle of talents for low carbon industries and to support the development of low carbon fields with cutting-edge technologies. With the support from people in all walks of life, we are determined to develop the college as a first-class, industry-oriented and discipline-based institution. We strongly welcome the talents around the world who are interested in low carbon fields to join our college.
School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (SCCE) has a glorious history dating back to 1928. Inspired by the mottos “Prudence, Pragmaticality, Erudition, Innovation” at SCCE, we have been highly successful in the development of academic disciplines, research, and education excellence. After years of efforts, we have so far more than 160 faculty members, among whom there are four academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science, two chair professors supported by the “Thousand Talents Program”, and 11 experts supported by the “Thousand Young Talents Program”; a large number of scholars are supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the “Cheung Kong Scholars Program”, the “National 973 Project”, the “National Science Fund for Outstanding Scholars”, etc. We provide comprehensive education programs including three undergraduate programs, four postgraduate programs(two master and two Ph.D. programs), visiting student programs and post-doctoral programs. Jiao Yulu was born in Yuanquan Town of Boshan District, in Zibo city, in Shandong province, to a poor family, on August 16, 1922, during the Republic of China.[3] Both his father Jiao Fangtian (焦方田) and mother were farmers.[3] He had only four years of schooling.[3] His father hanged himself during the Second Sino-Japanese War.[3] Jiao Yulu was conscripted into the Japanese labor and he was sent to coal-mining in Fushun, Liaoning, Manchoukuo.[3] He escaped to Suqian, Jiangsu in the fall of 1943.[3] He had been a farm labourer for two years for the landowner Hu Tairong (胡泰荣).[3]

Henan Polytechnic University (HPU)[1], with a history of nearly 100 years, is the first mining university in Chinese history. Its former is Jiaozuo Coal Mining School which was established by the British Syndicate Co. Ltd., in 1909. It has changed its names several times in the course of development, namely, FuZhong Coal Mining University, Jiaozuo Private Institute of Technology, North-west Institute of Technology, Jiaozuo National Institute of Technology, Jiaozuo Mining Institute and Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. The University resumed its name of Henan Polytechnic University in 2004.
