Department of Physical Education Established in 1986, the Physical Education Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University is directly affiliated to the university. After more than 30 years of development, it has one first-level discipline authorized to offer master degree. There are 82 faculty members including 5 professors, 2 chair professors and 1 academic leader. It has been continuously awarded the "Presedent Cup" for seven times in national university games. The Department focuses on talent cultivation since the very beginning. By adhering to the "four combinations", the department will take teaching as the core, mass sport as the foundation, competition as the highlight and scientific research as the driving force. Zhiyuan College The Zhiyuan College, established in January 2010, offers “Zhiyuan Honors Program” to the top 5% SJTU undergraduates. Today, Zhiyuan has seven undergraduate programs: Mathematics, Physics, Life Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Engineering and Biomedical Science. School of Media and Design Established in 2002, School of Media and Design (SMD) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University aims at educating a new generation of communication graduates who are not only equipped with critical thinking but also with creative capability. The School consists of four departments: Journalism & Communication, Film & Television, Design, and Cultural Industry & Management. To date, SMD has more than 90 faculty members. About 25% of them earned their doctoral degrees in the U.S., U.K., and other western countries. SMD also hosts more than 700 undergraduates, 300 master students, and 100 doctoral students. There are currently 324 international students in the school.
