School of Pharmacy SJTU School of Pharmacy was founded in 2000, and now it has 85 academic, administrative and technical staff members. The School has 17 research and teaching laboratories covering the complete spectrum of curriculum and disciplines of pharmacy education and research including medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical microbiology & biochemistry, pharmacognosy, and traditional Chinese medicine. SJTU School of Pharmacy is a research-orientated institution. Its graduate student body, enrolled in Ph.D., M.Sc. and M.Eng. programs, is as twice larger as its undergraduate classes. Both of the undergraduate and graduate courses are given by individual research laboratories each consisting of a professor and two to four junior academic staffs. SJTU School of Pharmacy has not only developed scientific programs but also nurtured an educational and research environment that is liberal and innovation-orientated. The school has now become a leading institute and an ideal place for pharmacy education and pharmaceutical research in the nation.
The pathogenesis of preeclampsia is unclear but is thought to be related to shallow trophoblast invasion. An invasive phenotype is acquired by trophoblasts through the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). We proposed that EMT in trophoblasts is deregulated in preeclampsia. The homeobox gene DLX4 plays an important role in epithelial-...

Ovarian cancers are heterogeneous and contain stem-like cells that are able to self-renew and are responsible for sustained tumor growth. Metastasis in peritoneal cavity occurs more frequently in ovarian cancer than in other malignancies, but the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. We have identified that ovarian cancer stem-like cells (C...
The construction of the campus never came to an end in the past century. Existing buildings: the Middle College building (built in 1898), the original library (built in 1919), the gymnasium (built in 1925), the administrative building (built in 1933), the Xinjian building (built in 1953), the new Upper College building (built in 1955), the second teaching building (built in 1960), Bao Zhaolong library (built in 1985) and Haoran high-tech building (built in 1996) were constructed one after another.
School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering The School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was established in 2001, with its glorious history traced back to 1908 when the discipline of Electric Machines was founded. Research in autophagy continues to accelerate,(1) and as a result many new scientists are entering the field. Accordingly, it is important to establish a standard set of criteria for monitoring macroautophagy in different organisms. Recent reviews have described the range of assays that have been used for this purpose.(2,3) There are many useful an...
Up to 30% of failure rate in endometrial hyperplasia patients treated by progestin urges more detailed understanding of the mechanisms involved in progestin resistance. Survivin is a key regulator in the antiapoptotic network, and overexpression of survivin has been reported in endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. This study investigated the role of...
... Likewise, our network analyses further support the role of these two GalNAc-Ts in modulating EOC tumorigenesis. Indeed major gene nodes with proven implications in EOC tumorigenesis, including VEGF, PI3K, EZH2, IQGAP1, and HOXD10 [34][35][36][37][38], were downregulated upon GALNT3 ablation. Moreover, multiple gene nodes reported to be involved in EOC progression (such as CUL1 EEF2, PTN, UCHL1, CBX5, USP14, and BMI-1 [39][40][41][42][43][44]) were strongly affected by the GALNT3/T6 double KO. ...
When the Japanese surrendered in 1945, neither the Communist Party of China (CPC) nor the Kuomintang KMT trusted each other or were actively cooperating. After American-sponsored attempts to negotiate a coalition government failed in 1946, the Chinese Civil War resumed. The CPC defeated the Nationalists in 1949, forcing Chiang's government to retreat to Taiwan. During the evacuation, a part of faculty and alumni was taken to Taiwan by Chiang Kai-shek, founding National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan in 1958.

Objective: To detect mRNA levels and expression of CD44, CD54, CD29 and E-cadherin (E-cad) and to discuss their relationship with formation and drug resistance of ovarian cancer SKOV3ip1 multicellular aggregates. Methods: Liquid overlay system was employed to obtain multicellular aggregates. mRNA levels and expression of CD44, CD54, CD29 and E-cad...
School of Humanities The School of Humanities, composed of three Departments and two Centers, offers two undergraduate programs, three master degree programs, one professional master degree program, and two Ph. The School has 1551 students and 141 full-time faculty members, among which 28 are professors, 3 are Zhiyuan chair professors, 1 is Jingyu Chair professor, and 6 are distinguished professors, 1 is elected in Shanghai Thousand Talents Program, 2 are involved in the New Century Excellent Talent Support Project of the MOE, China and 24 teachers hold overseas doctoral degrees. The School offers 40% of the core courses for liberal education in the whole university and undertaks a total number of 74 projects at the ministrial and provincial level or above, among which 41 are programs supported by the national social science foundation of China.
Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance The Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) was established by the Shanghai Municipal Government at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in April 2009. Its mission is to become a world class institute of research and higher learning with world class faculty. SAIF is committed to developing top talents for the financial world and to generate cutting-edge knowledge in financial theories and applications. As a member of Shanghai's financial community, it strives to contribute to the development of Shanghai as a global financial center.

Recent studies have suggested that follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) plays an important role in ovarian epithelial carcinogenesis. We demonstrated that FSH stimulates the proliferation and invasion of ovarian cancer cells, inhibits apoptosis, and facilitates neovascularisation. Our previous work has shown that transient receptor potential channel...

School of Physics and Astronomy The physics department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was initially established in 1928, and was one of the earliest physics programs in China. Starting from 2007, the University made a strategic decision to rebuild a first-class physics program and started to invest newly on several subfields of physics, such as particle and nuclear physics, laser & plasma physics. After further incorporating astronomy and astrophysics in the year of 2016, the department was renamed the School of Physics and Astronomy. The School currently has now sixty-six full professors and forty-three distinguished research fellows which is equivalent to tenure track assistant professors in the US system. It has seven research institutes. The School sets up its mission to meet the Chinese national strategic demands in physical sciences and related interdisciplinary fields. It strives to establish a world-class research-education center of physical sciences that aim to solve scientific problems of substantial importance and to cultivate next generation of leading physicists. At present, the School covers two first-class disciplines of physics and astronomy. It has become one of the three most comprehensive physics schools in C-9 group, one of the four physics schools who boast national collaborative innovation research centers, and one of the first batch of six pilot institutes in Shanghai Jiao Tong University to build the world-class universities. It is acknowledged as one of the most competitive, fastest-growing, and comprehensive physics colleges in China.
In Chinese grammar de hua (的话) is a very common and important word. It is used either alone or in combination with other words to express “if”. ARHI is a Ras-related imprinted gene that inhibits cancer cell growth and motility. ARHI is downregulated in the majority of breast cancers, and loss of its expression is associated with its progression from ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) to invasive disease. In ovarian cancer, re-expression of ARHI induces autophagy and leads to autophagic death...
