The construction of the campus never came to an end in the past century. Existing buildings: the Middle College building (built in 1898), the original library (built in 1919), the gymnasium (built in 1925), the administrative building (built in 1933), the Xinjian building (built in 1953), the new Upper College building (built in 1955), the second teaching building (built in 1960), Bao Zhaolong library (built in 1985) and Haoran high-tech building (built in 1996) were constructed one after another.

School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology The School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology was jointly founded by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanghai branch) in 1997. The 139 faculty members, including 51 full professors and 60 associate professors, are dedicated to cultivating diverse and unique talents in undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers. The School is also home to the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism and the Key Laboratory for Genetics Development and Neuropsychiatric Disorder. Our faculties, led by two prominent members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have earned numerous prestigious awards and international recognitions. By the 2017 ESI-based matrix, we ranked in the top 1% world-wide in Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Microbiology, and Plant and Animal Science. Hosting two state-level education bases, we administer a six-year combined bachelor-master program and an eight-year bachelor-master-PhD program. 1193 students are currently enrolled, including 303 undergraduates and 890 graduate students.
School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering The School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering (NAOCE) has a strong tradition of excellence and is comprised of five departments: naval architecture and ocean engineering, engineering mechanics, civil engineering, architecture, and transportation and shipping logistics. It is the home of the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration. The naval architecture and ocean engineering program has been ranked No. 1 in 2017 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. The School also features two state key disciplines (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; Mechanics). The School has 224 faculty members, including 78 professors and 90 associate professors. Among them, there are seven academicians of CAS and CAE, eight Thousand Talents Plan experts, six MOE Cheung Kong Scholars, and two NSFC distinguished young researchers.
