To compare the therapeutic and toxic profile of topotecan given intraperitoneally with intravenously in human ovarian cancer xenografted into athymic nude mice. Eighty female Balb-c/nu-nu mice were randomized assigned into eight groups (n=10). Xenografts resulted from intramesentery injection of cultured human ovarian cancer cells SKOV3 in athymic...
Metformin plays an important role in the inhibition of cancer cell growth and prolongs remission durations. It reverses progestin-resistance in endometrial cancer cells by downregulating glyoxalase I (GloI) expression. This study aimed to investigate the effect of metformin on endometrial cancer cell chemotherapeutic sensitivity and explore the und...

School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology The School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology was jointly founded by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanghai branch) in 1997. The 139 faculty members, including 51 full professors and 60 associate professors, are dedicated to cultivating diverse and unique talents in undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers. The School is also home to the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism and the Key Laboratory for Genetics Development and Neuropsychiatric Disorder. Our faculties, led by two prominent members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have earned numerous prestigious awards and international recognitions. By the 2017 ESI-based matrix, we ranked in the top 1% world-wide in Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Microbiology, and Plant and Animal Science. Hosting two state-level education bases, we administer a six-year combined bachelor-master program and an eight-year bachelor-master-PhD program. 1193 students are currently enrolled, including 303 undergraduates and 890 graduate students.
School of Marxism The School of Marxism, established in 2009, including 6 Teaching and Research Department and 2 researching centers. Offers the two and half year MP with about 20 students; the PhD program with 30 students in residence. Main researching directions are Theory of Marxism, Study of Marxism in China, Education in Ideology and Politics, Foreign Marxism. The school responsible for the teaching and management of the ideological and Political Theory Course.
The construction of the campus never came to an end in the past century. Existing buildings: the Middle College building (built in 1898), the original library (built in 1919), the gymnasium (built in 1925), the administrative building (built in 1933), the Xinjian building (built in 1953), the new Upper College building (built in 1955), the second teaching building (built in 1960), Bao Zhaolong library (built in 1985) and Haoran high-tech building (built in 1996) were constructed one after another.
Although glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) might act as a tumor suppressor since its inhibition is expected to mimic the activation of Wnt-signaling pathway, GSK-3beta may contribute to NF-kappaB activation in cancer cells leading to increased cancer cell proliferation and survival. Here we report that GSK-3beta activity was involved in the prolif...

A few highly aggressive and malignant tumor cells could acquire identities by turning on genes expressed by endothelial cells and recruit blood vessels to sustain tumor growth. Hypoxia was reported recently to play an essential role in these events. These 'plastic' tumor-cell phenotypes and the exact mechanism driving transendothelial differentiati...

... Interestingly, estradiol may play a dual role in modulating NRF2 activity. On the one hand, its metabolites activate NRF2 via the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) (independent of the ER) [29]. While recent studies demonstrated that estradiol leads to an activation of NRF2 in a wide range of cell types [30,31], the estradiol effect was only noted on protein and not on mRNA levels, suggesting that the main effect of estradiol is based on NRF2 protein stabilization [32]. ...

The purpose of the study was to explore the role and mechanism of ataxia-telangiectasia mutated (ATM) protein in endometrial carcinogenesis. A reverse-phase protein array (RPPA) was used to analyze the expression of ATM signal pathway proteins in Ishikawa and progesterone-insensitive Ishikawa. ATM expression was detected in endometrium specimens by...

... In order to investigate their capability to acquire a "mesenchymal-like" phenotype, we exposed these cells to both FSH and epidermal growth factor (EGF) that are well known to promote the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in different cell models [37][38][39][40][41]. Thus, adherent "spindle-like" cells appeared after 48 h of culture and developed a monolayer within about 15 days (Figure 5a). ...
