Ovarian cancers are heterogeneous and contain stem-like cells that are able to self-renew and are responsible for sustained tumor growth. Metastasis in peritoneal cavity occurs more frequently in ovarian cancer than in other malignancies, but the underlying mechanism remains largely unknown. We have identified that ovarian cancer stem-like cells (C...
School of Physics and Astronomy The physics department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was initially established in 1928, and was one of the earliest physics programs in China. Starting from 2007, the University made a strategic decision to rebuild a first-class physics program and started to invest newly on several subfields of physics, such as particle and nuclear physics, laser & plasma physics. After further incorporating astronomy and astrophysics in the year of 2016, the department was renamed the School of Physics and Astronomy. The School currently has now sixty-six full professors and forty-three distinguished research fellows which is equivalent to tenure track assistant professors in the US system. It has seven research institutes. The School sets up its mission to meet the Chinese national strategic demands in physical sciences and related interdisciplinary fields. It strives to establish a world-class research-education center of physical sciences that aim to solve scientific problems of substantial importance and to cultivate next generation of leading physicists. At present, the School covers two first-class disciplines of physics and astronomy. It has become one of the three most comprehensive physics schools in C-9 group, one of the four physics schools who boast national collaborative innovation research centers, and one of the first batch of six pilot institutes in Shanghai Jiao Tong University to build the world-class universities. It is acknowledged as one of the most competitive, fastest-growing, and comprehensive physics colleges in China.
School of Electronic, Information and Electrical Engineering The School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering (SEIEE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was established in 2001, with its glorious history traced back to 1908 when the discipline of Electric Machines was founded. With a century-long history of reputation in research and education, SEIEE is crowned as “the Cradle of Chinese Electrical Engineers”. The school now has 12 departments and principal units including the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Automation, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Instrument Science and Engineering, the Department of Micro-Nano Electronics, the School of Cyber Security, the School of Software, the Academy of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, the Center for Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices, the Center for Teaching and Learning Development, and the Cooperative Medianet Innovation Center.
Ovarian cancer is the most lethal malignancy of the female reproductive system with an overall mortality rate of greater than 70%. Our group has demonstrated that Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulates the proliferation and invasion of ovarian cancer cells, inhibits apoptosis, and facilitates neovascularization by increasing expression of va...
Objective: This research was carried out to investigate the effectiveness, rationality, and safety of laparotomy management compared with uterine artery embolization (UAE) combined with methotrexate (MTX) for the treatment of deep implantation cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP II). Materials and methods: Data from 29 patients seen between June 2008 and...
Its population was 3,700,000 at the 2016 census whom 1,301,732 live in the built-up area made of 4 urban districts (Jiefang, Shanyang, Zhongzhan and Macun) and Bo'ai County being urbanized. Jiaozuo enjoys a humid subtropical climate with continental climate influences. Winters are cool and relatively dry while summers are hot and often rainy. Average temperature ranges from 0.3 °C in January to 27.5 °C in July. Extremes exist from -22.4 °C to 43.6 °C. Precipitation averages 659 mm.
China Europe International Business School China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), a joint-venture for management education, was co-founded by the Chinese government and European Union (EU) in 1994, with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the EFMD serving as its executive partners. As China's only business school to originate from government-level collaboration, CEIBS is committed to educating responsible leaders versed in "China Depth, Global Breadth" in line with its motto of "Conscientiousness, Innovation and Excellence". Leaders from the Chinese central government and the EU have respectively lauded CEIBS as "a cradle of excellent executives" and "a role model of EU-China cooperation". CEIBS offers MBA, EMBA, Global EMBA, Finance MBA and Executive Education programmes. Renowned for its academic rigour, CEIBS is the first business school on the Chinese mainland to have been accredited by both EQUIS and AACSB and the only business school in Asia to have simultaneously made it to the Financial Times' top 30 list of MBA, EMBA and Executive Education programmes.
School of Media and Design Established in 2002, School of Media and Design (SMD) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University aims at educating a new generation of communication graduates who are not only equipped with critical thinking but also with creative capability. The School consists of four departments: Journalism & Communication, Film & Television, Design, and Cultural Industry & Management. To date, SMD has more than 90 faculty members. About 25% of them earned their doctoral degrees in the U.S., U.K., and other western countries. SMD also hosts more than 700 undergraduates, 300 master students, and 100 doctoral students. There are currently 324 international students in the school. Among them 104 are master or doctoral students who come from 55 countries including the U.S., U.K., France, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Pakistan etc. Many of them graduated from world prestigious universities like Princeton University, University of Chicago, University of South California and University of California-Los Angeles.
Up to 30% of failure rate in endometrial hyperplasia patients treated by progestin urges more detailed understanding of the mechanisms involved in progestin resistance. Survivin is a key regulator in the antiapoptotic network, and overexpression of survivin has been reported in endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. This study investigated the role of...
To study the expression of the human novel gene NM23-H1B in ovarian cancer. Forty-eight samples from patients with ovarian tumor at different clinical stages and 8 from normal ovaries were examined for NM23-H1B mRNA expression by using RT-PCR, northern blot and in situ hybridization. All samples expressed NM23-H1B mRNA through RT-PCR, while the lev...
Ovarian carcinoma is leading cause of death in gynecologic malignancies. The survival rate cannot be improved after routine surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Therefore biotherapy becomes the fourth treatment pattern for ovarian carcinoma. Adequate experimental models for the development of biologic therapeutic strategies are needed. Our purp...
Recent studies have suggested that follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) plays an important role in ovarian epithelial carcinogenesis. We demonstrated that FSH stimulates the proliferation and invasion of ovarian cancer cells, inhibits apoptosis, and facilitates neovascularisation. Our previous work has shown that transient receptor potential channel...
To study the expression of intermediate-conductance-Ca(2+)-activated K(+) (IKCa1) channels in endometrial cancer and its role in regulating proliferation of endometrial cancer cells. Western blot and RT-PCR were used to examine the expression of IKCa1 channels in 13 normal endometrial specimens and 25 endometrial cancer specimens; and RNA interfere...
... In order to investigate their capability to acquire a "mesenchymal-like" phenotype, we exposed these cells to both FSH and epidermal growth factor (EGF) that are well known to promote the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in different cell models [37][38][39][40][41]. Thus, adherent "spindle-like" cells appeared after 48 h of culture and developed a monolayer within about 15 days (Figure 5a). ...
Our previous study revealed that estrogen regulates nm23-H1 expression thus promoting cell migration-invasion via activating PIK3/Akt pathway. In this study, we explored the effect of hormone on hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1alpha), a key factor in cancer invasion and metastasis, via activation of Akt signaling transduction pathway. We treated t...
