Luteinizing hormone (LH) plays an important role in the development of ovarian cancer, and has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells. Similarly, survivin is a molecule that has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in other types of cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether survivin can be induced by LH in ovaria...
Our previous study revealed that estrogen regulates nm23-H1 expression thus promoting cell migration-invasion via activating PIK3/Akt pathway. In this study, we explored the effect of hormone on hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1alpha), a key factor in cancer invasion and metastasis, via activation of Akt signaling transduction pathway. We treated t...
In the year 404, Huiyuan wrote a treatise On Why Monks Do Not Bow Down Before Kings (沙門不敬王者論).[4] This book symbolized his efforts to assert the political independence of Buddhist clergy from the courts of monarchic rulers. At the same time, it was a religious and political text that aimed to convince monarchs and Confucian-minded ministers of state that followers of Buddhism were ultimately not subversive. He argued that Buddhists could make good subjects in a kingdom due to their beliefs in retribution of karma and the desire to be reborn in paradise. Despite the Buddhists' reputation of leaving their family behind for a monastic life, Huiyuan stated "those who rejoice in the Way of the Buddha invariably first serve their parents and obey their lords."[1]
Background: The aim of present study was to investigate the role of the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) used as a prognostic marker for predicting response and survival outcomes in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) who are receiving platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients and methods: Patients with a new diagnosis of EOC receiving p...
Chemoresistance is the major obstacle to cure endometrial cancer, whereas metformin has demonstrated sensitization to chemotherapy in endometrial cancer. A novel finding states that isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) involves in cancer chemoresistance. Recent studies have revealed that epigenetic modifications facilitate chemoresistance. However, wh...

... LiCl treatment can induce apoptosis in cancer cells (Kaufmann, 2011) and reduce the incidence of cancer of non-epithelial origin (Cohen et al., 1998). In addition, it has been shown that LiCl treatment can inhibit cancer cell proliferation through Wnt signaling ( Qi et al., 2006). In the present study, our results showed that LiCl treatment affects the expression of miR-17-92 cluster, which is known as oncomir-1 and plays vital roles in a variety of cellular processes such as cell proliferation and apoptosis. ...

To investigate the effects of sulindac metabolites on proliferation and apoptosis in the human umbilical vein endothelial cell line ECV304 in vitro. The proliferation profile of ECV304 was determined by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) method. Cell cycle distribution, apoptosis and the ultrastructure of ECV304 were detected by flow cytometry (FCM...

Objective To assess the effect of 17β-estradiol(E2) on cell proliferation, cell invasiveness and its regulation of MTA3, Snail and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) expression in the ovarian clear cell adenocarcinoma cell line ES2, and to further investigate the mechanism involved. Methods We first investigated expression of ERα, ERβ, PR and E-cad...
Golgi phosphoprotein 3 (GOLPH3), a newly recognized oncogene, is associated with tumor growth, metastasis, and poor prognosis in several types of cancer. However, its biological role and underlying mechanism in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) remain poorly understood. Here, we found that GOLPH3 was overexpressed in EOC tissues and cell lines. This...
School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering The School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering (NAOCE) has a strong tradition of excellence and is comprised of five departments: naval architecture and ocean engineering, engineering mechanics, civil engineering, architecture, and transportation and shipping logistics. It is the home of the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering and the Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration. The naval architecture and ocean engineering program has been ranked No. 1 in 2017 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. The School also features two state key disciplines (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; Mechanics). The School has 224 faculty members, including 78 professors and 90 associate professors. Among them, there are seven academicians of CAS and CAE, eight Thousand Talents Plan experts, six MOE Cheung Kong Scholars, and two NSFC distinguished young researchers.
OCT4 plays a critical role in the maintenance of stem cell pluripotency and proliferation, and is overexpressed in multiple human tumors, including endometrial cancer. OCT4 expression can be modulated by miR-145 and the OCT4 pseudogene 5 (OCT4-pg5), which share similar binding sites in the OCT4 3'-untranslated region. The goal of the present study...
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU; Chinese: 上海交通大学) is a major research university in Shanghai. Established on April 8, 1896 as Nanyang Public School by an imperial edict issued by the Guangxu Emperor, it has been referred to as "The MIT of the East" since the 1930s.[5][6][7] It is renowned as one of the oldest, most prestigious and selective universities in China. Shanghai Jiao Tong is a C9 League university and a Chinese Ministry of Education Class A Double First Class University.[8]
... With respect to other cancers, lithium has been found to be lethal to neuroblastoma cells but not to normal nerve cells (11). A similar effect was found in ovarian cancer cells (12), although a subsequent similar study on ovarian cancer cells suggests only a more modest benefit (13). It is not clear from our reading of the two ovarian cancer papers why the results are significantly different from each other. ...
... In order to investigate their capability to acquire a "mesenchymal-like" phenotype, we exposed these cells to both FSH and epidermal growth factor (EGF) that are well known to promote the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in different cell models [37][38][39][40][41]. Thus, adherent "spindle-like" cells appeared after 48 h of culture and developed a monolayer within about 15 days (Figure 5a). ...
