Persistent unopposed estrogen stimulation is a central oncogenic mechanism driving the formation of type I endometrial cancer (EC). Recent epidemiologic and clinical studies of EC have also revealed a role for insulin resistance, clinically manifested by chronic inflammation. However, the role of inflammation in estrogen-driven EC is not well chara...

Luteinizing hormone (LH) plays an important role in the development of ovarian cancer, and has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells. Similarly, survivin is a molecule that has been shown to inhibit apoptosis in other types of cancer. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether survivin can be induced by LH in ovaria...
School of Mathematical Sciences The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) enjoys a rich history dating back to the establishment of Department of Mathematics in 1928, 32 years after the founding of the university. One evidence of its place in modern mathematics in China is that the first Congress of the Chinese Mathematical Society was held in 1935 at SJTU. In 2014, the Department of Mathematics was selected by the central government as one of the first four Model Schools for Internationalization, which encourages us to be more internationalization in its practices, vision and outlook. With the growth in size, it was reorganized into the School of Mathematical Sciences in December 2015. With more than 100 faculties members, the school now consists of 3 departments (Mathematics, Applied and Computational Mathematics, and Statistics) and 1 center (Research Center for Mathematics Education).
... The influence of E2 on iron metabolism as depicted in ▶ Fig. 1 has been attributed to its ability to reduce HAMP synthesis and maintain/enhance FPN expression in human breast (MCF-7) and ovarian (SKOV-3) cell lines [29][30][31]. Reduced HAMP synthesis in E2-treated human liver HuH7 and Hep-G2 cells was attributed to the binding of E2-ER to E2 responsive elements (EREs) in the HAMP gene [32,33]. Use of the E2 antagonist ICI 182,780 was shown to inhibit E2-induced downregulation of HAMP gene [33]. ...

To investigate the effects of sulindac metabolites on proliferation and apoptosis in the human umbilical vein endothelial cell line ECV304 in vitro. The proliferation profile of ECV304 was determined by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) method. Cell cycle distribution, apoptosis and the ultrastructure of ECV304 were detected by flow cytometry (FCM...

Since then, research on this topic has continued to accelerate, and many new scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Accordingly, it is important to update these guidelines for monitoring au...

To study the expression of glucose transporter-1 (GLUT1) and its correlation with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in epithelial ovarian neoplasm. Streptavidin-peroxidase complex technique was used to examine the expression of GLUT1, bFGF and PCNA protein in six cases of normal ovarian tissue, 20 c...
To study the expression of the human novel gene NM23-H1B in ovarian cancer. Forty-eight samples from patients with ovarian tumor at different clinical stages and 8 from normal ovaries were examined for NM23-H1B mRNA expression by using RT-PCR, northern blot and in situ hybridization. All samples expressed NM23-H1B mRNA through RT-PCR, while the lev...

Since 2003, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has produced the Academic Ranking of World Universities[24] which analyzes the top universities in the world on quality of faculty (40%), research output (40%), quality of education (10%) and performance vs. size (10%).[25] Its ranking is exclusively of research universities, mainly in the empirical sciences.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common cancers which cause female mortality. The knowledge of ovarian cancer initiation and progression is critical to develop new therapeutic strategies to treat and prevent it. Recently, SOX3 has been reported to play a pivotal role in tumor progression. However, the clinical significance of SOX3 in human ovarian...

Chemotherapy-resistance is the major obstacle for endometrial carcinoma patient administration. Accumulated evidences indicate that metformin sensitizes cancers from several different sites to chemotherapy drugs and reverses progestin resistance in endometrial cancer. Our group has demonstrated that metformin reverses progestin resistance and enhan...

Chemoresistance is the major obstacle to cure endometrial cancer, whereas metformin has demonstrated sensitization to chemotherapy in endometrial cancer. A novel finding states that isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) involves in cancer chemoresistance. Recent studies have revealed that epigenetic modifications facilitate chemoresistance. However, wh...
To establish a sprouting embryoid body model mimicking early embryonic vasculogenesis in human embryo. Human embryonic stem were (hESCs) were cultured on the mouse embryo fibroblasts and then were induced to differentiate to form three-dimensional EB. The hEBs were cultured in media containing various angiogenesis-related factors: vascular endothel...
Previously, we demonstrated that follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) enhanced VEGF expression and facilitated ovarian cancer angiogenesis via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In this study, we further investigated the involvement of microRNA-27a: ZBTB10‑specificity protein pathway in the mechanism of FSH-induced VEGF, Cox2 and survivin expression. Tr...
In the year 404, Huiyuan wrote a treatise On Why Monks Do Not Bow Down Before Kings (沙門不敬王者論).[4] This book symbolized his efforts to assert the political independence of Buddhist clergy from the courts of monarchic rulers. At the same time, it was a religious and political text that aimed to convince monarchs and Confucian-minded ministers of state that followers of Buddhism were ultimately not subversive. He argued that Buddhists could make good subjects in a kingdom due to their beliefs in retribution of karma and the desire to be reborn in paradise. Despite the Buddhists' reputation of leaving their family behind for a monastic life, Huiyuan stated "those who rejoice in the Way of the Buddha invariably first serve their parents and obey their lords."[1]
To investigate the effects of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) on the proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion of ovarian cancer cells. Ovarian cancer cells of the lines SKOV-3 and ES-2 were cultured, and treated by FSH of the concentrations of 10, 20, 40, 80, and 160 mU/ml for 48 h or 24 h respectively. The cells without FSH treatment we...

To make the competition for his daughter's hand-in-marriage a fair one, Huang Yaoshi sets a series of three tests for the two contestants: Guo Jing and Ouyang Ke. The first obstacle is a test of martial arts. Ouyang Feng spars with Guo Jing while Hong Qigong fights Ouyang Ke. Guo Jing wins the first bout but ties with Ouyang Ke in the subsequent round, which involves appreciation of a piece of music played by Huang Yaoshi. The last assessment is a test of memory, in which Huang Yaoshi produces an incomplete copy of the Nine Yin Manual, without identifying the book, and asks the two contestants to memorise the text and recite to him later. Guo Jing read the manual before so he recites fluently and defeats Ouyang Ke.

There is evidence to suggest that follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) can facilitate the neovascularization of ovarian cancers by increasing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in cancer cells, although the underlying molecular mechanism of this process is not well known. Therefore, we investigated the effect of FSH on VEGF expressi...
