School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology The School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology was jointly founded by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Shanghai branch) in 1997. The 139 faculty members, including 51 full professors and 60 associate professors, are dedicated to cultivating diverse and unique talents in undergraduate students and postgraduate researchers. The School is also home to the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism and the Key Laboratory for Genetics Development and Neuropsychiatric Disorder. Our faculties, led by two prominent members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have earned numerous prestigious awards and international recognitions. By the 2017 ESI-based matrix, we ranked in the top 1% world-wide in Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Microbiology, and Plant and Animal Science. Hosting two state-level education bases, we administer a six-year combined bachelor-master program and an eight-year bachelor-master-PhD program. 1193 students are currently enrolled, including 303 undergraduates and 890 graduate students.

Jiao Yulu joined the Communist Party of China in January 1946, and he soon was transferred to Bohai, Shandong and appointed a group leader of the Land Reform movement. By late Chinese Civil War, he worked in Weishi County, Henan province until 1951. In June 1953, he was transferred to Luoyang Mine Machine Manufacturing Plant and worked there until 1962.
