To investigate the effect of glycogen synthase kinase-3beta (GSK-3beta) on the proliferation of human ovarian cancer cells. Two human ovarian cancer cell lines SKOV3 and ES-2 were analysed for the expression of GSK-3beta and phosphorylated GSK-3beta (pGSK-3beta) by Western blot analysis. Cell growth curve analysis done by cell count was used to inv...
When the Japanese surrendered in 1945, neither the Communist Party of China (CPC) nor the Kuomintang KMT trusted each other or were actively cooperating. After American-sponsored attempts to negotiate a coalition government failed in 1946, the Chinese Civil War resumed. The CPC defeated the Nationalists in 1949, forcing Chiang's government to retreat to Taiwan. During the evacuation, a part of faculty and alumni was taken to Taiwan by Chiang Kai-shek, founding National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan in 1958.
Snail, a key inducer of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), plays an important role in cancer metastasis. To better understand the role of Snail in the metastasis of ovarian carcinoma, expression of Snail was knocked down by antisense-Snail in the highly metastatic ovarian cancer cell line HO8910PM. Gene array analysis revealed that blocking S...

Shortly after his marriage to Feng Heng, Huang Yaoshi met Wang Chongyang's junior, Zhou Botong. He learnt from Zhou Botong that Wang Chongyang had died and that Zhou had inherited the Nine Yin Manual. He wanted the book for himself so he tricked Zhou Botong into allowing his wife to read it. Zhou Botong agreed and let her read the second volume of the manual. Feng Heng had eidetic memory so she memorised the book easily. She lied to Zhou Botong that the manual was fake and that it was actually a copy of a book of childish rites she had memorised by heart. She recited the first few verses of the manual verbatim to Zhou Botong, who mistakenly believed her and destroyed the book in anger. After Zhou Botong left, Feng Heng wrote a copy of the manual from memory for her husband.

In total, 83 research centers participated in the study, and 7786 patients were...

... Interestingly, estradiol may play a dual role in modulating NRF2 activity. On the one hand, its metabolites activate NRF2 via the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) (independent of the ER) [29]. While recent studies demonstrated that estradiol leads to an activation of NRF2 in a wide range of cell types [30,31], the estradiol effect was only noted on protein and not on mRNA levels, suggesting that the main effect of estradiol is based on NRF2 protein stabilization [32]. ...
